DesignLab's Kimberly Gerardi Honored at LiveGirl’s She Is Rising Ceremony

S.A.
On Monday, Dec. 5, St. Luke's Middle School designLab Chair Kimberly Gerardi was presented with LiveGirl's Community Partner of the Year Award during the organization's She Is Rising Gratitude Ceremony. This event celebrates the dedicated, passionate women who volunteer to help girls in grades five through college build their confidence and self-esteem, ensuring all girls enrolled in the LiveGirl program thrive and make a positive impact on the world.

When presenting Kim with the award, LiveGirl Founder and CEO Sheri West said, "We are truly grateful for our partnership with St. Luke's and the designLab and for Kim's instructional leadership, which allow us to offer an elevated camp experience to the LiveGirl community."

Gerardi connected with LiveGirl in 2018 — her first year at St. Luke's — when she was interested in spending her summer supporting young women in STEM. Through the organization, Gerardi led an interactive camp experience called Take it Apart, where students dissected gadgets and small electronics to understand their components and circuitry and put the pieces together in different ways to create new configurations. The summer program was so successful that Gerardi began offering it as a St. Luke's eighth-grade elective class. "Thanks to St. Luke's state-of-the-art designLab, the project scope and opportunities have grown over the years," Gerardi shared. "The breadth of possibilities increases as more and more people use design thinking to explore their ideas and solve problems."

Over the past five years, the partnership between St. Luke's and LiveGirl has grown tremendously, due in part to Gerardi's incredible leadership and commitment to women in STEM. Today, LiveGirl partners with St. Luke's to host a three-week summer camp on the school's campus, with Gerardi leading several hands-on sessions in St. Luke's designLab.

When reflecting on her role with the St. Luke's/LiveGirl partnership, Gerardi shared: "I am very thankful to have been part of our St. Luke's community and the LiveGirl village for the past five years. I look forward to supporting more young women in the summers ahead. I am grateful to St. Luke's for hosting LiveGirl summer camps during the past few years. Our program continues to grow, and I encourage more Hilltop community members to get involved in this positively contagious experience."

Camp LiveGirl returns to St. Luke's for summer 2023. Please visit our Summer at St. Luke's page for more information. New camp offerings will be listed in early spring.
